The Lingo From the Bay “Yee” is From the 80s

album-best-o-boingoI know I know, it’s astonishing isn’t it? Well here I am listening to Oingo Boingo’s “No One Lives Forever” and approximately mid-way through the song I hear “No one lives forever. YEE!” Listen carefully if you don’t believe me; at about 2:12 (from from the album Best O’ Boingo (1992) [originally from the album Dead Man's Party in 1985. Yet, the yell is only on the Best O' Boingo album for some reason.]); he yells this one word phrase, also popularly used in circles of the rap communities from the Bay Area in California.

Well folks, that basically sums up the origins of this pop culture colloquialism.

Here is a link to the song on imeem:

It is unknown to me which version of this song was recorded when. I am quite sure the Best O’ Boingo version had been recorded long before the album release (most likely sometime in the 1980s).
