Duck Sauce (A-Trak & Armand van Helden)

Well, this weekend was the last time the famed hip-hop and rap store, Fat Beats, in New York would open its doors for business. I actually found out about this on A-Trak’s twitter page; how sad. Here are some videos of A-Trak from the event. A-Trak TEARS it up although the camera works isn’t the greatest (especially with the sun in frame the entire time). Keep your eyes on his hands, MY GOODNESS. It’s funny when he gets his cities mixed up and asks, “How you doin’ LA?” Blush moment right there.

]]> Hearing his electronica mixes at music festivals and raves made me forget that A-Trak was the youngest DMCs World DJ Champion in the history of the competition. In this Red Bull Music Academy video archival footage, A-Trak rips it up on the ones and twos and shows us how far the art of turntablism has come. More info on A-Trak here.

]]> I was browsing the HardFest website today and I found that they’ve released the setlist times! There are going to be two stages: the Hard Stage and the Underground. Ironic that the DJ Underground isn’t playing in the Underground stage :P (He is hardly underground though). I am also sad to report that Skeet Skeet is playing the VIP stage, which I sadly do not have access to. WHY SKEET SKEET WHYYY?

    ]]>     So I am currently listening to A-Trak’s mixtape called Dirty South Dance. It’s a limited addition (only 5000 albums released) so hopefully you can find your own copy on Amazon! Maybe there is something in the iTunes store, I personally haven’t checked :P .

    A-Trak will be playing at Hard Fest Summer 2009 here in sunny Los Angeles, CA. I haven’t gotten tickets to this event yet, but I plan on going (depending on my wallet).

    From Wikipedia:

    A-Trak (born Alain Macklovitch on March 30, 1982) is a Montreal-based DJ and turntablist.

    A-Trak won the DMCs World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of 15, making him both the youngest and first Canadian winner of the competition (as of 2003, he is one of two Canadian DMC World Champions – the second being Dopey).[1]

    He was the first DJ to win all three major DJ competition titles (DMC, ITF and Vestax) and the first DJ to win five world championships[2]

    He was later asked to join the now-defunct DJ crew Invisibl Skratch Piklz, and is a member of The Allies.

    He cites the DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince album “He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper” as his introduction to turntablism. He is the current tour DJ for rapper Kanye West. He uses Serato Scratch LIVE.
