Dual Computer, Dual Monitor, Dual Dual

This is a guide for people who might have similar setups involving two computers and two monitors (and maybe a KVM switch or two). There are four setup methods (if you know of more, please share in the comments below) to achieving two, fully dual screen computers with side-by-side monitors. The huge upside to having a setup like this is that you can have the luxury of two computers, both dual screen capable. At the same time, it makes both computers accessible on their own (one on each monitor). With a few button presses and no cable reconfiguring, you can turn a setup that might need up to four monitors into one that utilizes only two monitors and KVM switches. Here are the four methods that I know of:

*Requirement: Both computers need dual video output supported video cards

You have two monitors with multiple inputs (HDMI, VGA, DVI, SVID, etc):
- Plug in one output from monitor 1 and connect to computer 1.
- Plug in one output from monitor 1 and connect to computer 2.
- Plug in one output from monitor 2 and connect to computer 1.
- Plug in one output from monitor 2 and connect to computer 2.
You have one monitor with multiple inputs (HDMI, VGA, DVI, SVID, etc), a monitor with only one input and a KVM switch:
- For KVM switch:
  - Plug one input into computer 1.
  - Plug one input into computer 2.
  - Plug the output to monitor 1.
- For monitor:
  - Plug one input into computer 1.
  - Plug one input to computer 2.
You have two monitors with solo inputs and two KVM switches:
- For KVM switches:
  - Plug one input from KVM 1 into computer 1.
  - Plug one input from KVM 1 into computer 2.
  - Plug one input from KVM 2 into computer 1.
  - Plug one input from KVM 2 into computer 2.
- For monitors:
  - Plug the output from KVM 1 into monitor 1.
  - Plug the output from KVM 2 into monitor 2.
You have two monitors with solo inputs and a KVM switch with 2-port dual monitor support or higher [view photo in Exhibit A for reference]:
- For KVM switch:
  - Plug both inputs for Computer 1 to computer 1.
  - Plug both inputs for Computer 2 to computer 2.
- For monitors:
  - Plug one input from monitor 1 into the KVM switch slot for monitor A.
  - Plug one input from monitor 2 into the KVM switch slot for monitor B.

I used method #2 because I had old, spare parts. A few VGA-to-DVI converters wouldn’t hurt either, you will be plugging in 4 video cables to computers and are bound to need some.

This past weekend I went to see the film Hanna (Joe Wright 2011). It was a fantastic movie filled with great camera effects and amazing cinematography. The story was well written, and the acting was spot on. My favorite part was the soundtrack and sound design of the film. Hanna was scored by The Chemical Brothers, the veteran producer and DJ pair from Manchester, England, and the soundtrack absolutely blew me away. I cannot stop listening to it and wanted to share my favorite track from the film, called The Devil is in the Beats:

Psycho / Suite For Strings

I must tell you, I absolutely love Halloween. The best music (way better than Christmas music – I cannot tell you how much I despise it, bah humbug) and best shows on TV and movies (don’t get me started on Christmas movies…) come out during Halloween. Anyways, I want to share one of the most famous scary movie scores of all time, Psycho! This isn’t any ordinary soundtrack recording of the theme from Psycho, it’s The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra – Psycho / Suite For Strings. The sound is so rich! Have a listen.

Passion Poem

I haven’t written poetry in quite a few years. I was feeling very emotional while watching Rising Son The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi earlier today. I never knew it when I met him briefly while filming him at a skate contest a few years ago, but I identified with him a lot through his documentary. Being half Asian myself I feel that we share that same dynamic — the dynamic of coming from two completely separate cultures and dealing with the culture shock of identity. When you see Christian Hosoi skate, you can feel the passion. It is what he does and he does it best because of the passion he has for skateboarding. Skating is very creative and artistic, I feel that we also have this in common. His father was an artist and guitar player, both of my parents are artists. I felt like writing an entry after watching it, but it soon turned poetic. So without further ado here is the poem I wrote — unedited and quite rough.

What is passion? Where has it gone?
Creative, artistic, bundled into one.
Full of desires can’t be undone.
What has life really become?

Passion is what bounds cannot define,
Like a spring that unwinds.
Like a mute who sings,
Like a canary without wings.

Passion can set you free,
No matter who you are,
Or who you want to be.
Passion sees no past.

Passion passes no judgment,
It has no conscience.
It is a drug of feeling,
And stems from love.

Passion can be tender,
Passion can be violent.
Like the sunshine,
Or like a torrent.

Passion is in your soul,
It is in your heart.
It has no end,
